About Me
Hello there!
I am a multimedia journalist in New York. and a freelance production assistant at a documentary production company. Recently, I worked as a trending and general assignment reporter at The Buffalo News.
I graduated from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York in May 2023 where I honed my multimedia storytelling and reporting skills, while also learning how to use investigative techniques and data to boost my work.
The beats I have worked on include healthcare, homelessness, labor, inflation, and poverty. I have dabbled in print, audio, and video to tell these stories.
Born and raised in Kolkata, India, I grew up in a Bengali household where dinner discussions about daily news were mandatory which ultimately became the main driving force behind my passion for reading, writing, and eventually journalism.
Previously, I pursued my bachelor’s in English literature from Presidency University, Kolkata. My interests there mainly lie in pop culture and gender studies. The latter fueled my interest in writing about injustices affecting the less privileged. My desire to tell the stories of those who are constantly oppressed or being silenced is the main motivation behind my pursuit of journalism.
I have been working remotely since the pandemic for a London-based cultural magazine, Far Out Magazine, and their sister publication, Best of Netflix. There I worked as a film columnist which required me to write features, reviews, opinions, lists and daily breaking news stories.
Prior to joining The Buffalo News, I briefly worked at uinterview.com and upolitics.com, covering both entertainment and political breaking news stories.
Besides reading and traveling, I enjoy making a bucket list of adventure sports I would like to try!
